Severe Weather
Policy
Any time that Brownell-Talbot School closes due to weather
conditions, all aquatics events and Open/Lap Swim are cancelled.
If severe weather threatens on a school day, check the news outlets -
links below.
I
may not be able to get this site updated on a school snow day.
It's my call on Saturdays and other non-school days. To date, I
have never cancelled lessons due to weather. I do want everyone to
be safe, so there is always a possibility that swimming could be
cancelled on a Saturday or other non-school day. Check the news
outlets. If we are going to stay closed, I will have notified them
by 6:30 AM. If you don't see anything by then you know that we
will be having lessons. Weather conditions can change quickly and
can vary dramatically from neighborhood to neighborhood. Whether
to venture out on severe weather days is Your
Choice.

We do not issue refunds or schedule make-ups for
events cancelled
due to weather conditions.
Family Swim times are included in your swim
school tuition. All families currently enrolled in a B-T Aquatics
Swim School session may always swim during our Family Swim time on
Saturdays for free. We recommend using this free swim time as
another chance to practice if you have to miss a day because of bad
weather. Family Swims are free for the whole family not just for
the swimmers enrolled in the lessons. If you bring friends or
relatives to Family Swim with you, the admissions is $3 per person for
those not members of your household.
Snow days are also a good day to learn about
water safety and about the weather. Here are some links to sites
that are educational and fun to visit when you are stuck inside:

Natalie DeToit broke a 22 year old cold water swim record
in April 2009. She swam 4.6 miles in 55 degree water wearing only
a suit and a cap! (The B-T Pool is kept at 86 degrees.) Two
hundred fifty swimmers competed in the event. The youngest swimmer
in the race was a 15 year old boy who completed the swim in 1 hour and
50 minutes.
Read about Natalie's cold water swim.
At the age of 17 Natalie was hit by a
car while riding her scooter home from swim practice. She had to
have her left leg amputated below the knee. She's won many medals
at the Paralympics and became the first amputee to qualify for the
Olympics.
She placed 16th in the 10K Marathon
Swim in Beijing.
