   It's time to learn about...

 Follow the Rules

Every pool has some rules,
usually posted on signs.

Look around, find the sign,
and read all the lines.

No running.  No pushing.  No dunking.  No dives.
Whatever the rules, they are meant to save lives.

Follow the rules and your day will be great.
Disobey one or more for a less fortunate fate.

We swim for good times!

Swimming pool rules are designed to keep everyone safe.  Different pools sometimes have different rules because the situations are different.  Check to see what the rules are at your pool and obey them.  If you have any questions about the pool rules ask someone who works at the pool.

In addition to the pool rules, your parents may have rules for you to follow at the swimming pool.  Your parents want you to be safe.

Here are some rules that are enforced at most swimming pools:

1.  No running or pushing on deck.

2.  No rough play.

3.  Only one person on the diving board at a time.

4.  No diving in the shallow end of the pool.

5.  No food or drink in or near the pool.

There are many other rules that may be in place to keep you safe.  Some pools do not allow flotation devices.  We do not allow the use of masks or squirt guns at our pool.  Some pools have restrictions on what type of swimming suit you may wear.  Some pools may allow you to climb on each other like in the photo above, some pools would not allow this.

The swimming pool staff at each pool decides the rules for their pool.  They know best how to keep you safe in their facility.

How can you help keep yourself safe?

Be smart.  Learn the swimming pool rules for your pool, remember them, obey them.  Check the rules for each new pool you visit.  Also, think for yourself.  If you think a certain behavior would be unsafe, you are most likely right!  Don't do anything you believe to be unsafe for you or for others.

Be patient.  Not everyone follows the rules.  Be patient with those who may break the rules unintentionally.  Stay away from those who break the rules repeatedly.  Keep yourself safe.

Be a good sport.  Understand that the rules are not going to be the same at every pool you visit.  Your parents may have different rules for different situations too.  Make the most of every swimming opportunity.  Follow the rules each time you go swimming.  You can always find ways to have fun at any pool without breaking any rules.
