FACE-UP FIRST®PROGRAM SUPERVISORS       TRAINING DATES

Swimming coaches are lucky.  We get to work in a medium that most people, especially children, find enjoyable.  In addition, we get to teach a skill that is relatively easily learned - unlike those poor piano teachers!  Once a child has mastered the art of crawling to the edge of the pool and falling in, she is ready to learn the life skill of swimming.  Swimming coaches also get the opportunity to work with every single child in our communities because swimming is a necessary life skill.  All children must learn how to swim.

Best of all, swimming coaches teach a skill that is never really mastered by anyone.  There is always more to learn, more to do, another technique to try.  This is a great job!

Program Supervisors are responsible for the safe, efficient, and effective administration of FACE-UP FIRST® programs.  Every licensed program must have at least one certified Program Supervisor on staff to oversee the program.

Training of Program Supervisors consists of an instructor training course and practical experience coaching all of the FACE-UP FIRST® programs followed by administrative training in the Program Supervisor Course.  To complete the certification, Program Supervisor candidates must operate a FACE-UP FIRST® program and be evaluated by both a FACE-UP FIRST® Program Director and by program patrons.  (Overview of Training Courses)

1.  FACE-UP FIRST® Program Supervisors first participate in instructor training that provides basic level training for swimming coaches including the fundamentals of how to teach swimming effectively based on our Face-Up Firsts and the First Things First biomechanical teaching progression.  The course also covers the benefits of no-level swimming, the skills progression for infants, toddlers, children, and adults, the aquatics awards program, the Good Times philosophy, and the Work-Rest-Play class structure.  Candidates will also learn the advanced stroke mechanics taught in the Competitive program and the specialized techniques used for Infants & Toddlers.

2.  Following the training session, Program Supervisor candidates must participate in practice teaching and an apprenticeship/evaluation process in order to become certified to teach using the FACE-UP FIRST® method and curriculum.

3.  Upon becoming certified as coaches, candidates are eligible to participate in the Program Supervisor training course.   This course provides all the training you need to successfully operate a FACE-UP FIRST® program.  Following successful completion of the course, candidates are eligible to function as the administrator of a licensed FACE-UP FIRST® program.

4.  Certification is not complete until successful completion of an evaluation process conducted on-site by a FACE-UP FIRST® Program Director.  The evaluation process includes soliciting evaluations from program patrons.
