EXPECTATIONS
1.
RESPONSIBILITY - Swimmers are expected to be responsible.
-
Responsibility to Self: All
students are expected to make the most of all of their school
experiences. Academic studies, participation in
extracurricular activities including sports prepare them for life as
an adult. B-T students are expected to take full advantage of
these opportunities. They are expected to be
responsible and thoughtful when choosing activities. Students should not overburden themselves or choose activities with
conflicting schedules. Once they have chosen swimming, swimmers are
expected to develop their skills to the best of their ability and
give their best efforts in every practice and competition.
-
Responsibility to B-T:
Athletes are often very visible representatives of B-T among the
student body, the community, and other communities. Swimmers
are expected to honor the tradition of excellence at Brownell-Talbot
School by displaying conduct that contributes to school spirit and
community pride.
-
Responsibilities to Others:
Swimmers are expected to make an uncompromised commitment to uphold
team rules and to attend and participate fully in all practices and
competitions. Each team member is expected to contribute to
the success of the team by taking individual responsibility for
demonstrating a consistent, strong work ethic and by being a
positive influence on the many relationships on the team.
Swimmers are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that honors
the loyalty and support shown by their families, friends, volunteer
workers, and B-T boosters. Swimmers are expected to be a
positive example to younger swimmers at B-T Aquatics.
Swimmers are expected to abide by all Brownell-Talbot School Policies,
Rules and Regulations. These may be found on the Brownell-Talbot
School website. www.brownell.edu
2. KNOWLEDGE - Swimmers are expected to be informed.
-
Team Information: Swimmers
are to keep themselves informed on all aspects of team business.
Coaches and staff members will make every effort to get information
posted on the web site and printed into handouts. However, we
hold swimmers fully accountable for seeking out information and
following up when necessary. Swimmers are responsible for
processing all team paperwork as required.
-
Conditioning and Skills:
Swimmers are expected to listen in practice and follow up when
clarification is necessary. Coaches will hold swimmers
accountable for knowing the conditioning principles and swimming
technique information presented at practices.
Most information will be posted here.
3. CONTRIBUTION -
Swimmers are expected to give back and "pay it forward".
-
Swimmers are expected to display caring
and honorable behavior out of the pool and to be a positive
influence in the community. Swimmers are expected to give of
their time and skills for the betterment of the sport of swimming,
and through swimming, the community.
Swimmers are expected to help the older swimmers by helping at the High
School Home Meets; and to encourage the next generation of B-T swimmers
by helping at the B-T Santa Claus Meet and/or Splash Meets.

AWARDS
Participation Awards will be given based on the following criteria.
(How am I doing? Check the LOG.)
1. Cooperation - individuals acting together for a common
benefit
Cooperation is measured in PRACTICE POINTS. Swimmers will receive
one point for each full practice attended. Partial points will be
awarded for partial practices and for practices with no
suit-up/swimming. The practice dates are posted on the
schedule below in BLUE.
2. Competition - to strive together for greatness - We need
competition and our competitors because they take us higher within
ourselves.
Competition is measured in MEET POINTS. Swimmers
will receive one point for each meet attended. Swimmers need not attend
all sessions of a meet, but must compete in all events possible in at least one
session of a meet to earn the meet point. (Only USA-Swimming sanctioned
meets are counted for Meet Points.) Meet dates & Entry deadlines for the USA-Swimming
sanctioned meets are posted on the schedule below in
RED.
3. Contribution - to be an important
factor in bringing about a result
Contribution is measured in VOLUNTEER POINTS. Swimmers will receive one
point for each full session worked at home meets. High School Dual Meets
and the B-T Santa Claus Meet will count toward Contribution Points. (Splash
Meets do not count.) Dates of B-T High School home meets and the Santa
Claus Meet are posted on the schedule below in GREEN.
4. Competence - possession of required skill, knowledge,
qualification, or capacity
Competence will be measured in the ability to complete a 200-yard
Individual Medley swim. The swim must be completed with a legal
start, legal strokes, legal turns, and a legal finish. Speed is
not a factor in completing the Competence requirement. Swimmers
will be given multiple opportunities to complete this swim.
The deadline to complete the 200-yard IM swim
is Practice #45 on Saturday, February 23.
5. Championship - the act of providing approval and
support
Championship is measured by participation in one of the two Championship
meets at the end of the season. To meet the Championship
requirement, swimmers need show their support of team and the sport by
completing the entire season and participating in the final meet.
Championship Meet Dates: Division II - Feb. 29, March 1-2;
Division I - March 7-9. The entry
deadline for both meets is February 20.
Achievement Awards will be given based
swimmer achievements during the season. We have three achievement
awards: D1 Team Member for qualifying and participating in the D1
Championship Meet, High Point Award for participation in meets, and
monthly Most Improved Swimmers given at the discretion of Coach Neal.
Awards will be presented at a Spring PIRATES
& PANCAKES breakfast ceremony. Date TBA.
