Instructor Training Course

Infant & Toddler, Child & Adult, Competitive (Course Overview)

FACE-UP FIRST® instructor training provides basic level training for swimming coaches including the fundamentals of how to teach swimming effectively based on our Face-Up Firsts and the First Things First biomechanical teaching progression.  The course also covers the benefits of no-level swimming, the skills progression for infants, toddlers, children, and adults, the aquatics awards program, the Good Times philosophy, and the Work-Rest-Play class structure.  Candidates will also learn the advanced stroke mechanics taught in the Competitive program and the specialized techniques used for Infants & Toddlers.

Practice Teaching

Practice teaching consists of working with a certified coach in regularly scheduled classes.  The coaching candidate will be able to observe and participate in "hands on" teaching.  Practice teaching requirements may be completed under the supervision of any certified coach.

Apprenticeship & Evaluation Process

Apprenticeship consists of coach candidates teaching classes under the watchful eyes of a certified Program Supervisor who is not teaching the class.  The Program Supervisor will complete a written evaluation of the candidates' teaching for submission to the FACE-UP FIRST® office, and when candidates have qualified, issue certifications.

PreScreen Skills Test

"Those who can't do..."  not FACE-UP FIRST® coaches!  Each coach candidate will be required to demonstrate a relaxed, balanced back float and to complete a 500-yard swim consisting of 200-yards of crawl stroke, 200 yards of backstroke, and a 100 Individual Medley (25 Back, 25 Breast, 25 Fly, 25 Crawl).  There is no time limit.

If you would like to be a FACE-UP FIRST® coach and are worried about the skills test, please contact the FACE-UP FIRST® office at B-T Aquatics.  You can do it!  We can help!
