Posted 3/4/2010:  I've been asked lots of questions about the drowning event that occured at a local hotel last weekend.  I know nothing more than what has been published in the media.  It is all very sad and a great loss for everyone involved.  I do have three things I would like all of our families to know about hotel swimming and pool parties.  This information is also posted in our free online course:  Water Safety Education for Parents & Caregivers. 

1. KEYS:  The keys to hotel swimming pool safety are a) providing vigilant supervision, and b) preventing unsupervised access to the pool.  There are many things you can do to help keep your family safe at a hotel pool:  Parents Guide to Hotel Swimming Pool Safety.  This is a printer-friendly flyer that you can pack to take with you the next time you visit a hotel.

2. CHOICE:  Commercial facilities are always working to provide a safe environment for you to enjoy.  Users also have an obligation to make good choices for themselves and their families:  It's Your Choice.

3. CONSIDERATION:  Pool parties are great fun.  However, pool parties are for only skilled swimmers.  If you have even one guest that cannot swim, please choose a different venue so that everyone may safely enjoy the party.  Pool Parties
