OPEN SWIM SAFETY TIPS
|
5 KNOW'S
1. KNOW HOW TO SWIM. The best way to stay safe is to be a strong swimmer. If you don't know how to swim, we can teach you!
2. KNOW THE SITUATION. How deep is the pool? What is the pool temperature? Where is the lifeguard station? Where am I allowed to swim? Are there any areas where I shouldn't swim? What equipment is available? With whom am I swimming? How crowded is the pool? Are there younger or older swimmers nearby that I should watch out for? How can I get help if needed? Know the situation before you start swimming.
3. KNOW THE RULES. The pool rules are posted in the pool area and in both locker rooms. We can even give you a copy to take home and study! The rules are designed with your safety in mind. Follow the rules for a safe swimming experience.
4. KNOW YOUR LIMITATIONS. Know your body. Get out and rest if you feel very tired or cold.
5. KNOW YOUR SWIM BUDDIES. Know the abilities of your swimming buddies. Be thoughtful of those who do not swim as strongly as you. Stay in an area of the pool in which you are all comfortable and safe. |
5 NO'S
1. NO FLOTATION DEVICES Floaties, arm-bands, swimmies, etc. promote an upright position in the water that is not conducive to learning to swim. The use of these devices puts children at an increased risk of drowning. These devices are not allowed in our pool at any time. Children who cannot swim independently must be within arms reach of an adult supervisor at all times.
2. NO RUNNING OR PUSHING Running and pushing are both playtime behaviors that will not be allowed at the pool. The pool deck is slippery, and pushing people into the pool can be very dangerous. Keep the fun and games in the pool, not on the pool deck.
3. NO SWIMMING ALONE Do not swim without a lifeguard on duty. When you come to the pool to play during Open Swim, it is also a good idea to swim with a buddy. It is fun to swim with a friend, and you can help keep each other safe.
4. NO DIVING IN THE SHALLOW END Dividing is not allowed on the shallow side of the big blue line that runs across the bottom of the pool and up the wall.
5. NO FOOD OR CANDY Please keep all food in the Pirates Cove, the spectator gallery, or out in the hallway. |
We swim for good times!
